Five Star Pool

Outstanding work from planning and design, to every phase of construction of our spa and sun shelf addition, pool resurface, recoping, and brick patio install. Roman (Owner Five Star w 25+ yr exp) was super helpful and patient with design and cad plans and with every step of install and construction process. Also great guidance with material selection and explaining pool/spa equipment and electrical reqs. Roman's estimate was very detailed and included everything from start to finish with no surprises. We have recommended Roman/Five Star to several other neighbors and friends asking about our project. It was a team effort by Five Star beginning with Hector, FiveStar’s pool/spa plummer. He was extremely meticulous installing the new pool/spa pipes/equipment (laid out in military order) and designing the concrete form work on the spa. He also did superb job of installing all the pump, blower and heater and chlorinator, jet valves/piping. Hector was friendly and super helpful and suggested the 7 foot vice 6 foot spa interior. Really makes a difference, can fit 6-8 adults w no prob and Hector also assisted with the design/layout of the sunshelf and steps. The Five Star concrete subcontractor professionals were also super patient in shaping the spa interior, custom steps and rounded sun shelf to fit our vision - plus extremely skilled. Electrician also did great work connecting all of the equipment and lighting. Five Star's master mason, Everton (also 25+ years w FiveStar) did absolutely superb work on all the pool/spa coping, glass tile, marble water fall, and patio brick work. Incredibly creative and flawless masonry work, cuts and design as can be seen from pictures. Detail oriented on every cut of coping/tile/bricks - all level and evenly laid. Also expertly laid patio deco drains. Water drains perfectly off pool deck - with no puddling. Plus plaster guys did beautiful work. Roman also had special guys to come out to do pool start up to ensure all equip working properly/pool water balanced to protect new finish. Our construction contractor who did our addition and overhang commented multiple times on the expertise and attention to detail of all of the Five Star artisans. Five Star Screen Enclosure Subcontractor really topped it off (no pun) with Mansard screen enclosure, super gutter w toppers - great design and master craftsmanship. They came back few weeks after install at no charge/no questions to fix small leak in one of gutter connections noticed only after first big rain storm. Five Star price was very reasonable for master work that was done. Whenever we wanted a change to original estimate, like clay fired bricks, deck jets or doggy door on screen encl., Roman provided the change in estimate right away so we could evaluate the cost before proceeding. The automation on the pool equipment Roman recommended is really worth it and simplifies the added controls w the spa. HIGHLY recommend Roman and Five Star Pool craftsman to be trusted w any pool construct/refurb, spa, screen, or patio project.

I WOULDN't RECOMMEND Five Star Pools. Would give them zero stars if I could. My pool Reno was completed during 2021. One single elderly man installed our pavers. They were uneven, see pics, and turned black with mold almost immediately. Sealant was included in our quote. We brought this to Roman's attention and he made excuses stating the discoloration could be from our dogs going to the bathroom, etc. This is not the case. I've reviewed the negative reviews and Roman always has an excuse and likes to blame it on the homeowners. If you look at my pavers in the pics there are moldy ones next to pavers with no mold at all. Why would we pressure wash some pavers and not others. I'm going to have to pay another company to renovate our deck and spend thousands of dollars. I used Five Stars because of the reviews. I rarely post reviews and it's taken me a year to decide to write a negative review because it's not what I wanted I wanted a remedy offered by Roman. One last thing, I've lived in FL almost my entire life. I understand rainy summers in Florida and mold on decks. I understand the need to pressure wash on a regular basis. This isn't due to lack of maintenance.

I moved into my current home, first as a rental, then I purchased it 3 years ago. I inherited a small 30'x9' Pool with a cheaply painted interior, a dilapidated Birdcage Screen Enclosure, and a cracked/chipped concrete patio floor. I knew I would have to renovate the pool as the painted floor and steps inside the pool continued to deteriorate. I carefully researched the how's and why's of various pool renovation projects for about a year, then researched local Pool Renovation companies and their online reviews, and local and state professional licensing and accreditation status of each company. I then selected five companies and had onsite evaluations and estimates. After careful review, in July 2024, I decided to go with Five Star Pool. Why? Because Roman (Owner/Contractor) and Andrew (Project Manager) not only visited twice (but, explained in detail, how the company operated, project requirements, and timeline). Additionally, I had/still have, the extremely efficient and endearing support of Sid (Office Manager), whom I had the pleasure of meeting at least twice, to help me select the materials for the new pool interior (Pebble Sheen-Aqua Cool), Tiles, LED Lighting, Safety Railing (for the steps), and Patio flooring (Maldives Blue Marble), and a last minute decisions to replace the deteriorating white screen enclosure with a new bronze enclosure and adding mosaic tiles to the pool floor and steps. Throughout this approximately six week project (delayed one week due to weather), Five Star Pool and their subcontractors excelled in their constant professionalism, competence, respect for my property, and were always pleasant in their explanations of the various parts of the Project. Surprisingly quieter and efficient in their demolition and re-building of my new pool interior, enclosure and patio flooring; I was less stressed than expected throughout the duration of the project. The required permitting process, for the Enclosure also went smoothly. Minor issues/concerns have/are being handled as expeditiously as possible and with my experience with Five Star Pool, will be resolved to my satisfaction. Now, I have a beautiful/pristine pool, striking screen enclosure, and a gorgeous "cool in the Florida Sun" patio flooring (which I expect to continue during the next 3 "summer" months). My added pool tile mosaics which were perfectly applied, complements the overall beauty of my new pool. In Summary, I am very impressed with the overall project results with Five Star Pool: their staff and sub-contractors. I know I made the right decision in selecting Five Star Pool. They Rock!

We were off to a good start with the total pool remodel. It was not until the paver crew came that the project went south. . Let me start with the fact they had no regard for your or the neighbors property leaving debris everywhere that many nights i had to clean up. After finishing the pavers we had concerns that I had to bring to their attention. They lay out was off by 4 inches and the pitch from the house was not correct. In addition the deco drain was pitched toward the house which is incorrect. I also had concerns about how the deco drain was secured and was told that concrete was used however we found out that a large part of the drain was only laid in sand only which should have been secured in concrete. They used a concrete collar for the skimmer to meet the pavers and it looked horrible and after fixing this they left all the concrete debris in the pipes which I had to clean with a wet vac. (This would have caused pump failure). After picking out loose pavers and large gaps in the pavers my wife was told by a paver supervisor "once you find one thing you start looking for more". Well duh! The same supervisor told us when we laid the level down near the house which showed it was level and his comment was "what is wrong with that it is level" but the problem is that it should be pitched away from the house. They had to be back 4 times to correct these errors and still the deco drain remains pitched toward the house. The topper was the coping was the incorrect color we ordered ($600 given back for this error). We were given a number to call to contact the general and many times there was no response to our concerns. The owner did come out to help the general correct some of these concerns but it was all very stressful process overall. If you do not know anything about this process you may want to avoid this company or you may find yourself with these issues not corrected.

We first met Roman Huf, the owner of Five Star Pool, in 2017. Over the next two years, we got estimates and input from several construction, screen, and pool companies before finally deciding, conceptually, what we wanted to build. Roman came out two or three times and patiently helped us come up with a plan that turned out better than we could have expected. We liked Roman from the very beginning and our confidence grew with each visit. He seemed to have a clear idea of how to create what we wanted. He is very positive, agreeable, and knows his business. We finally started construction in January 2020. They had to remove the old decking, all the pavers and coping around the pool. They built the walls for the new porch, laid the rebar, poured cement, and filled the interior porch space with compacted dirt. The old worn pavers, with grass growing through the cracks, were replaced by large, smooth travertine tiles, as was the porch. They installed new pool tiles and each piece of coping was handcut and laid into place. When we first talked to Roman, it was about the construction of the porch/patio/pool coping only. I told him one day that we would have to make sure he coordinated with whomever we had do the screening project. We hadn't picked anyone yet. He asked me what kind of screened porch we wanted, so I found a picture on Houzz and sent it to him. He came back within a day or two with a proposal that we considered reasonable, so we contracted with him to build the screened enclosure. He sub-contracted the work to Tampa Screens & Aluminum, Inc. and they had the screened porch up in three days. We are absolutely thrilled with the way everything turned out! There were minor hiccups along the way, but everything was resolved to our satisfaction. We also have to confess that, after watching this whole process--the amount of man-hours, labor, and skill that went into this project--we feel like we got our money's worth. I will also add that the employees who we talked with were satisfied with the company. They are full-time, skilled employees with decent benefits. They were conscientious, professional, and polite. Chris built the porch almost single-handedly and should the hurricane of the century hit, we are quite sure our porch will still be standing when everything else is gone! Thank you also to Andrew, Lenka, Carlos, and all the others who did a great job! We are also pleased with the work that Tampa Screens did. The enclosure is solidly built. We are working out a couple small issues with them at the moment, but they have been responsive. We are of the opinion that FIVE STAR POOL is appropriately named. They earned five stars from us!

We signed our contract in November 2020 and our project was supposed to begin March 1, 2021 but actually began the week of April 19, 2021. We are now 13+ weeks into a standard pool remodel which was originally committed to be done in 6 weeks. There is no finishing in sight. They have no urgency whatsoever and don't care that we've been under construction for months. There have been weeks where no one shows up to do any work. They delivered travertine to my home and let it sit on pallets in my driveway for months before they actually began my project. There have been disruptions in the supply chain but my materials were ordered and received well in advance. While this company has good hardworking people, the management and ownership is absolutely terrible. They updated their "What to Expect" notice and never communicated proactively to customers. They do things very sneaky and you learn about it later vs being transparent throughout the process. They give you the best price up front but add costs later that were never discussed initially. They put every charge in separate invoices so you never know what you are actually spending - clearly a trick to gain more money from customers. They take zero responsibility for any mistake or miscommunication. They failed to order enough waterline tile for what I requested and blame me for the issue when I have documentation showing otherwise! They refuse to fix any mistakes and never actually work towards alignment on issues. Katie is the absolute worst person I've ever had to deal with in a remodeling project. She offers zero value in my opinion and doesn't offer any assistance in selection of materials. Perhaps it's not her fault as she isn't experienced in all of the product lines and design options available in the market. You are essentially on your own for the entire project. Andrew, the Project Manager responds quickly but never actually inspects or validates information. The tile installer cut too much of the travertine paver around our spa when installing waterline tiles which created a very large grout line that looks terrible. The travertine over the spa was not installed properly (corners and angles). Both workers were great and worked so hard but there are mistakes that need to be fixed and I don't trust that Five Star will actually fix anything. The spa spillover was not cut evenly (one side is longer than the other verified by measurement). There are rust spots on our travertine and I'm being told that is part of the "curing process" which doesn't make sense considering the rust is there from the workers leaving their tools and chairs all over the place. I have paid on time and when asked for something, I've followed through on their requirements but they don't follow through on their commitments. This is absolutely not a five star company even though their name suggests. We have to continually follow up to find out where the workers are and push to get anything done. This company has taken on more projects than they can handle and I would strongly advise anyone from using them in the future. I don't think this company is honest and do not trust them after having so many issues over the last 6+ months. In the end, our project cost more than the best pool company in town! Photo 1 shows the rust and Photo 2 shows the extremely large grout-line which was done in error by time installer as well as incorrect corners and angles of travertine. This should all be fixed fairly easy as nothing is perfect but I don't trust Five Star to actually take the initiative to make it right. I will have to fight for them to correct it because that's the kind of company this is.
