About Coastal Deck & Pools

Coastal Deck & Pools of Vero Beach: one of Florida's oldest pool licenses, held since 1988, rated 3.4 on Google from a small sample of 13 reviews.

Who they are

Coastal Deck & Pools works from Abington Woods Circle in Vero Beach, Indian River County. Their Florida contractor license, CPC044953, was issued in July 1988 and is current — thirty-eight years of unbroken certification, which puts them among the two or three longest-licensed builders on this entire list. Their domain has been registered since 2006. They describe themselves as licensed and insured: the license is real and unusually long-standing, insurance is not verifiable by anyone outside the company, so ask for the certificate. Beyond that they claim nothing — no awards, no warranty headline, no ranking. Thirty-eight years is the strongest fact here and it is a real one.

What they build

New pool construction, renovation and resurfacing, ongoing pool service, spas and hot tubs, water features and outdoor living work. Six lines, with decking in the company name and evidently in the work — the strongest reviews on record are about resurfacing and remodelling rather than new builds, so read them as a firm whose recent record is in renovation. They publish ten project photographs and no opening hours, and use a personal email address, all of which points to a small operation reached by phone. They updated their services page in 2024.

Where they work

Vero Beach and Indian River County. They publish no separate pages for individual towns, so there is no documented town-by-town service area — Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fort Pierce and the Treasure Coast is the sensible reading, and anything further worth confirming by phone. They are one of only a handful of builders on this list covering Indian River County at all, which narrows the choice usefully if that is where you are. Two local numbers are published; the most recent activity on the site shows in January.

What the record shows

Google has them at 3.4 from 13 reviews, which is more than a point below the 4.52 Florida average. Thirteen reviews is a genuinely small sample, so be careful how much weight you put on the number — at that volume two bad experiences move it a long way, and that appears to be exactly what happened. Neither a praise theme nor a complaint theme reaches our reporting floor, so there is no recurring strength or fault we can state, and we are not going to invent one. What is there is worth reading individually, because the two halves are unusually specific. On the good side, a customer whose pool was resurfaced calls the job excellent and the crew prompt and courteous, and notes they were away during the work and had been worried about nobody being there to supervise. Another, writing a year after a remodel, says they remain happy and makes the fairest observation on this page: that things occasionally go wrong on any job, and what matters is what happens next. On the other side, one customer hired them for a pool renovation, fired them, and engaged a different contractor, alleging they knowingly laid the wrong tile and carried on. That is a serious allegation and it is one account. The other negative review concerns a rude phone manner and dates from 2018, which is eight years old and says little about the company today. So: a thirty-eight-year license, good recent resurfacing work, and one serious dispute. Ask for two references from renovations completed in the last year, and agree in writing who signs off the tile and finish before it goes down.

I would highly recommend Coastal Deck and Pools. They are easy to work with friendly and efficient! I have used them multiple times. The installers are top notch and pay very close attention to detail. Every time the job is perfect and comes out looking better than new. They are my top recommendation for friends and family when it comes to pools!

Do NOT use this company. My husband and I hired them last year for a pool renovation. We have since has to fire them and find a new contractor. They knowingly laid down the incorrect tile and proceeded to tell us we needed to pay to have the tile pulled up and the correct ones laid back down. They also charged us for the new tile. We just learned that the plumbing for our outdoor kitchen was done incorrectly and will have to be fixed. Lastly, we have now realized that they changed the tile on our hot tub and it no longer matches the tile we are using for our outdoor kitchen. I have never seen this level of unprofessionalism. We have contacted the owner and he can’t be bothered by the issues. I hope that this review will save someone else the thousands of dollars and headaches that we have had to endure. As someone who comes from a family business I love to support local, small businesses but I would never recommend using this company.

Coastal Deck and Pools are the real thing! A year out now with our pool remodel, which we are very happy with. Every so often things go "wrong" mostly of our doing, and they ALWAYS show up! Just recently they where too kind, we needed some pool alarms to ensure that our grand children would be safe, it turned out we needed two and offered to lend us one instead of buying two! What great customer service.

Lady that answered the phone made it clear they didn't need my business and are doing me a favor. Said they would send someone out to take a look and give me an estimate. That was 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard a word. Don't waste your time.

Had our pool resurfaced and they did a awesome job! They were prompt and very courteous...i was going away and was concerned about no one being there when it was finished it was finished a day before I left and while I was gone they came over and made sure the chemicals were right which is very important the first month or so and even cleaned it to make sure we came home to a beautiful clean pool. Very happy we chose this company for our pool resurfacing job, it turned out great!

The customer service over the phone was terrible. I called today (August 28, 2018) to make an appointment to get an estimate for refinishing our pool deck. The person who answered, Sandy, had a very rude attitude toward a potential customer because I'm a non-native English speaker with an accent. She apparently did not understand my pronunciation clearly which is OK because it seems like this happens sometimes in Vero Beach since there are not many people from different countries live in this area. However, while I was answering her with my name and home address, she interrupted me and said in a rude and aggressive way that “I can’t understand what you are saying AT ALL because of your language barrier." I thought I misheard her at first but she really meant it and couldn't understand why that would be offensive. I can’t believe someone can say that kind of comment to another directly when we are clearly communicating. We won't be having them over and potentially doing business since they only want to service people who talk like Sandy does.

Questions homeowners ask

Answered from this record — not by the business.

How long have they been licensed?

Since July 1988 — thirty-eight years, among the longest on this list, and current.

What do the reviews actually say?

Google has them at 3.4 from 13 reviews, more than a point below the 4.52 Florida average — but thirteen is a very small sample, where two bad experiences move the number a long way. No praise or complaint theme reaches our reporting floor, so there is no recurring strength or fault we can state.

What is the serious complaint about?

One customer hired them for a pool renovation, dismissed them partway and engaged another contractor, alleging they knowingly laid the wrong tile and continued anyway. That is one account, not a pattern — but it is specific. Agree in writing who signs off the tile and finish before it is laid.

What are they best at?

Renovation, on the recent evidence. The strongest accounts are about resurfacing and remodelling rather than new builds — one customer was away during the work and still rated the crew prompt and courteous, and another was still happy a year after their remodel. Decking is in the name and evidently in the work.

Which areas do they cover?

Vero Beach and Indian River County, with no pages for individual towns, so Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fort Pierce and the Treasure Coast is the sensible reading. They are one of only a handful of builders on this list covering Indian River County at all. No opening hours are published, so phone first.
