CollinsBuilt Pools

Overall: We are generally happy with the outcome of our pool re-tile and resurface; however, I would like to be able to say we are extremely happy. The people I worked with were friendly and were plenty patient with our indecisiveness on tile and interior color/finish and worked well with the contractor who did our paver deck. Praise: - Danny was extremely helpful and compassionate. During the start-up of the pool we encountered a couple issues: 1) I broke the line to the chlorinator the first day 2) The sub-contractors should have plugged the bottom drain/skimmer to keep debris from getting into the system which seized up the multi-port valve and clogged the caretaker system. Danny helped consult and showed up on the weekend to troubleshoot high pressure issues in the system and get our chemical levels back in shape. - David (the tile guy) was amazing. It is rare to find someone who works with such diligence and care. He took absolutely no shortcuts and you could tell he put his all into his work. We really enjoyed having David be a part of this project. - The team who did the acid wash did a great job alleviating most of my concerns from the team who applied the interior and performed the exposure of the mini-pebble (see feedback section for details). I feel they had to work harder than they should have, but I'm happy they were there to do the finish work. Feedback: - Communication should have been better in the front-office. - There were a couple of times we called and left a voicemail and it took a couple of days to get a response--one time we were told, "Oh yeah, I remember listening to that the other day and forgot to call back". Outside of Danny keeping us up to date most communications were initiated by us. - We had changed tile selections a couple of times. I assume things got shuffled around and we received a text message one or two days before tile was supposed to be installed indicating our color sheet was lost and we needed to provide our selections so the tile could be ordered. Those items did not fully make their way onto our final color sheet, because we had to do some reconciliation of selections of the stair tile. - It shouldn't bother me, but no one reached out to collect the 40% deposit due after draining the pool. It makes me feel like there were too many projects going on and things weren't being tracked very well. - It is never acceptable to say, "I won't say no to money!" while bounding over when a customer comes in to drop off a final check. - Quality check and/or supervise your sub-contractors. When talking with the owner, Buddy, about concerns about the quality of work I observed from the team who did the bond-coat and interior application/exposure I was told options are limited, there are three companies to work with and these guys were the best of the three and CollinsBuilt has been considering bringing doing the interior finish in-house (please do). I was able to watch them throughout the day and the methods application/exposure team used were not consistent with directions from the vendor. They ran a wide open hose (not a wand) to expose the mini pebble over the area once and I doubt they came back and did it a second time as evidenced by splotches and unevenness in the finished product. You can't tell when you are just glancing over the pool, only when you look in to try and appreciate the details. This finish is going to be here for at least 20 years, and I'm a little disappointed every time I look into it. In some of the attached pictures, you can see how uneven the application is when the pool light is on and how there is good exposure of the mini pebble surrounding splotches where there is significantly more cement in the matrix. The close-up pictures best represent this, but it only shows one small section. There is picture a little further back where it's a little difficult to see because catches so many reflections from the water you don't really see in person.

Recently contracted to have a new home built and we were advised that the subcontractor of choice was CollinsBuilt Pools. We opted to go with them. It was a good decision. They designed, installed, and set the pool up for the initial conditions. It was the most flawless part of the entire home build project. At the end of the build and with the pool and wifi ready, we attended the Collins Pool School. This is a valuable resource in that it is the orignal company showing you the layout and operation of the pool, as well as the ins and outs of the equipment installed. They provided enough information so that anyone could pick up the maintenance process and proceed seamlessly. They also impressed the importance of the maintenance process during the first year. It was a very valuable experience.

CollinsBuilt Pools exceeded my expectation throughout every step of the build. They were very helpful and understanding throughout the design process. The crews working in the field were very professional and kept the job site clean. You can tell Buddy only puts the best guys building his pools, based on the quality of work i’v seen. I am a very attention to detail oriented and the only discrepancy I had was fixed to my liking within a week. Scott, my project manager made every step on the build smooth answering all my phone calls and questions. Couldn’t have asked for better communication! My pool build was 9 weeks from the day we got our permit to the day it passed final inspection! I would recommend CollinsBuilt pools to anyone looking to have a pool built!
