I am so thankful for John and his crew! We interviewed and contracted with another pool company to replace our existing pool. That was 4 years ago now. Needless to say that first company was a ripoff. They created a huge hole in our yard and went out of business slowly stringing us along for 3 years. When you have so much invested in a project you try to see it through but they finally went under. So started looking for a company to finish the mess we had. John and his team took it on. They were reliable. They did quality work. They did what they said they would do and on schedule. Our pool was not easy to finish. But they did it and it's fantastic. And support services: excellent. I am not very handy or knowledgeable about pools, equipment etc. So I bother John via text with questions pretty regularly to learn better how to care for the system. He is always right there to guide me and help. I give he and his team 10 stars if I could. Just a fantastic experience working with him. And he really saved us from the mess we were in. Update August 2025. The pool is still fantastic. Love it. We were even able to swim most of the cool months. We have a heat pump to heat the pool and it works great even in Nov and March. Dec, Jan and Feb it heated the pool but it was too cold for us. If your planning cool weather swimming solar panels really help us. Our panels cover our electric usage all year round even running the pool heater. A couple things to watch for, which has nothing to do with Pool Authority. 1. We have had an issue with the pump stopping. John and team have responded well to try to fix this. But I think this is a Pentair issue, so be careful if using Pentair. 2. We added a natural gas fire feature. Don't bother they don't work well.

We hired this company to replace the module for our pool pop ups. The company came out and replaced the module for $875 that was paid on the spot. They were also supposed to replace the pop ups but they were on back order. After a few months and many phone calls checking on the status the pop ups were installed. We were not notified they were installed they just showed up. They sent us an invoice for a price that was not what was quoted. My husband sent them what we were quoted and we never got a response, this was Oct 13. Today this company CAME INTO MY YARD AND REMOVED THE POP UPS THAT THEY AHD INSTALLED AND JUST LEFT THE OLD ONES IN A BAG! THEY TRESPASSED ONTO MY PROPERTY WITHOUT ANY NOTICE WHILE I WAS NOT HOME! MY NEIGHBOR SAW THE SAME TRUCK WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE MODULE. This company lacks communication, honesty and integrity. If they do not respond to our calls or emails by Monday we will be contacting police. DO NOT RECOMMEND. BEWARE!!!!! Edit to response from company: We have emailed 2x and called 2x to resolve this miscommunication of price quote and you guys have NOT responded. We are not trying to get out of paying you for the service we just wanted for pay what was agreed upon with Luis (who has left your company). The fact of the matter is your company does not respond back to their customer, I stead you show up unannounced to their residence when they are not home, WITHOUT PERMISSION…which is very unprofessional! We emailed you Oct 13 and called and emailed you Friday 11/4 when you came unannounced to our home to try and resolve this and you have yet to respond but yet you responded to my review. Not great business practices.

I cannot express how incredible my experience with Pool Authority has been! From start to finish, they have exceeded all expectations. A special shoutout to John, who was beyond amazing throughout the entire process. Not only did he take my vision for the perfect pool and turn it into reality, but he also made it even better than I could have imagined. John and the team took the time to create a 3D design of my pool, allowing me to visualize every detail before even breaking ground. The final result? Nothing short of spectacular—an absolutely awesome pool that is the centerpiece of my backyard. If you're looking for a pool company that is professional, skilled, and truly dedicated to making your dream pool a reality, look no further than Pool Authority. They are by far the best in the business! Thank you so much, John, and the entire team, for your hard work and dedication. You guys are rockstars!

We wanted to-request a proposal for pool resurfacing, repair of three rust areas. new jets, drain covers etc, lighting issues fixed and pool tile cleaning. The estimator arrived and refused to talked with us about everything we wanted done. He just measured the pool and told us he would provide a proposal. Any other items could be discussed after we signed a contract and paid a deposit. I had to call the office after a week to get the proposal sent three days later. The email didn't include the proposal. Eight days and three email request later I received the proposal. The proposal was a third of the next lowest proposal. It only included one of the three rust areas and was for resurfacing only using the lowest cost resurfacing material. Why would anyone pay a 50% non refundable deposit so they could "negotiate" change orders costing an additional 10-15 thousand dollars? This estimator is why pool companies have a bad reputation. I recommend you never call Bay Area Pool Authority.

I hired Bay Area Pool Authority to resurface my pool pool. I chose the NPT mini pebble finish in Tropics Blue with Glass. This was a big job as my pool is large with a spa. Doing this work during the summer here in Tampa can be challenging, well these guys got the job done perfectly. It is not often you see contractors with a crew that has been working together for years, and these guys like what they do, it showed in the quality of their work. Not only that but John Skop (the owner) made sure that even after they were done someone was out at the pool everyday for 2 weeks making sure that the pool chemistry during the curing period was perfect, this is critical when you have a new surface in the pool. I do not have any enough good things to say about him and his group of guys.

BUYER BEWARE Pool authority stole 700.00 of my deposit. I decided not to move forward with a new pool build as I lost confidence in the company as the 2nd in command (The companies own COO) left due to issues with the owner JOHN and they were not successful requesting a permit for the pool build. They submitted a permit to the county which came back denied and they are trying to charge me for the work they put in on the denied permit. I am more than willing to pay them for the 300.00 engineering fee, but that's not enough for the owner John who never ever sent me an invoice for the stolen money. Pool authority's business practice is unethical and they treat their customers poorly. If the owners partner/friend would leave the business that says a lot about what is really going on behind the curtain. Pool authority, please refund me the rest of my deposit of $700.00 or at least send me an invoice on why you kept my money. There are currently complaints filed with: 1. Hillsborough county consumer protection services 2. BBB better business bureau 3. Florida department of business and professional regulations

About Bay Area Pool Authority, Inc

Bay Area Pool Authority of Lutz: what they build across Tampa Bay, and the billing question to settle first. FloridaPoolz.

Who they are

Bay Area Pool Authority works across Tampa Bay from Lutz, holding Florida pool contractor license CPC1458542, current since June 2014. Their domain dates to 2015 and their specials page was revised in August 2026. Their licensed contractor status checks out on the register; the family-owned and insured claims are not on any public record.

What they build

New pool construction, renovation, repair and servicing, spas, water features and outdoor living work. They list thirty-five towns across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando. Those town pages are close variants of one another rather than separately written, so read the list as travel range and confirm your own address.

What their reviews say

4.5 from 22 Google reviews and 3.7 from fifteen on Yelp, against a Florida pool builder average of 4.52. Google puts them level with the field, Yelp below it, and 37 reviews between them is a moderate sample where the gap is worth reading rather than dismissing. Eight customers praised professionalism independently and four the build quality.

Worth asking about

Two themes each reached the two-customer floor: payment and billing, and communication. Neither is a pattern on 37 reviews, but billing is the kind of thing that is easy to prevent and unpleasant to resolve afterwards, so settle it up front. Get the payment schedule in writing with what triggers each stage, what happens to the price if the scope changes, and who to call when you have a question. Only a handful of project photographs are published, so ask for two recent addresses near you.
