Hans and Flamingo Pools have been amazing! We purchased a house in Florida while still living in Texas. We were months away from being here permanently. We decided to get the pool started before we moved. We talked to a couple of builders...one did not care if we went with them or not...when told we had quotes, the sales guy said he had no problem if we went with our other quote, and then took 2 calls and over a week to tell us what the starting price for the base package was. Another told us what their base package started at without having any idea what we wanted and then let us know how busy they were and how long it may take to get started. Then there was Hans with Flamingo Pools! We called the number and Hans answered! The owner answered the phone...how rare is that? When we told him we wanted to build a pool, but would be doing it remotely, he immediately put us at ease. He was excited to talk about the build and was ready to get started...like right then. None of this months of waiting to get started stuff...he was ready. He listened to what we wanted, helped us work thru the design and even if our idea was not the norm, he played it out and sent drawings. His willingness to listen ultimately gave us exactly what we wanted and it is amazing!! He was also very fair with pricing and was substantially less that the others starting price for their base package! Hans is professional when he has to be, but what we really liked is how friendly he is. He is always honest and that just adds to the good character that Hans is. It felt like we had a buddy that just happened to build pools doing the job for us. He went above and beyond with some things that were house build issue and helped fix them so that our pool oasis would be just that without us still needing to do other things. We have received many compliments on the design and build quality by people that are in the pool business...and that says a lot about Hans, as they had no idea who we were using! We would use him again right now...but a 2nd pool seems excessive! If you want someone that will be honest and tell you like it is without a bunch of empty promises all while building the pool of your dreams, Hans and Flamingo pools is your best option!! Sorry so long winded...Just so many good things to say about Flamingo Pools and Hans!!
Signed a contract February 7, 2021 with a commitment by the owner Hans Menzer to start June 2021. Construction didn't start until February 3, 2022 after multiple stories from Hans about when he would start. He only started after I threatened a complaint to Florida DBPR. He did not pay the subcontractor who dug the hole so they put a lien on my house. Hole was dug and then no activity for weeks. Despite numerous stories and promises as of October 2022 the pool is still not complete and I terminated the contract with Flamingo Pools. I was charged for things I did not get and the work that was done is very poor quality. Deck pavers will have to be removed and reinstalled because they are poorly cut and not level. Drainage for the deck was never cut in. The pool screen cage failed the County inspection and fell down 2 days later during the hurricane. None of the 40 houses around my house lost their cage during the hurricane. What does that tell you about quality? I have over 50 years experience dealing with construction and building contractors and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a pool contractor avoid this company. I would have selected 0 Stars but Google doesn't allow that. Their website says "Enjoy your pool 30 days from start" That has to be a joke. Nothing could be further from the truth! Construction started 8 months after it was supposed to start and 8 months later, 16 months since the construction was supposed to start, it is still not completed.
I've always relied on Yelp to share my genuine experiences with local businesses, appreciating the platform as a place for honest, community-driven feedback. However, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed and questioning the integrity of the review process. I submitted a detailed, honest review of a contractor we hired, carefully adhering to all of Yelp's guidelines. My feedback was honest, aiming to share my positive experience. To my dismay, my review was filtered out, invisible to the Yelp community. This action is disheartening for several reasons. Firstly, it undermines the trust that users place in Yelp to provide a comprehensive and unbiased overview of customer experiences. If honest reviews are arbitrarily filtered, how can users trust the ratings and opinions they see? Secondly, this filtering process seems to lack transparency. As users, we're left in the dark about why certain reviews are deemed unworthy. Without clear communication or a chance to appeal, it feels like our voices are silenced based on opaque criteria. I understand the need to maintain quality and prevent spam or malicious content, but when genuine customer feedback is stifled, it does a disservice to both businesses and the community. Businesses miss out on valuable insights that could help them improve, and users lose out on sharing and accessing honest opinions. I urge Yelp to reconsider its filtering algorithms and to adopt a more transparent and fair approach. Let's ensure that the platform remains a valuable resource for genuine, constructive dialogue between businesses and their patrons. Until these concerns are addressed, my trust in Yelp and the value I once placed on it as a community-driven platform has been significantly diminished. Flamingo Pool and Spa Review I recently had the pleasure of working with Flamingo Pool and Spa to install a pool in my backyard, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! From start to finish, the team was professional, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure my vision came to life. Their expertise and attention to detail were evident throughout the process. They listened to my ideas, provided valuable insights, and delivered a stunning pool that exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and it's clear they use high-quality materials. Communication was seamless, and they kept me informed every step of the way. The project was completed on time and within budget, which is a testament to their efficiency and reliability. Not only do I now have a beautiful pool that my family and I enjoy every day, but the entire experience was stress-free, thanks to the wonderful team at Flamingo Pool and Spa. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to enhance their home with a gorgeous pool or spa. Thank you, Flamingo Pool and Spa, for making my backyard dreams come true!
Hans visited our home December 2017 and seemed to be extremely friendly and knowledgeable about our pool. He is local and also does maint/repair. He gave me an estimate and told me to call his wife Phoebe to set up our service. During the course of last year we had several occasions that our pool turned green. Phoebe wasn't a very pleasant person to work with; always saying we aren't paying enough for our pool service, they were having trouble with employees, (the employees indicated to me that they were being treated very well and quit) always excuses. I called over a week ago to pay my Feb bill and she said she was out doing errands and would call me back. Yesterday 2/12 I call a couple of times leaving msgs. In the meantime I noticed that there is streaks in our pool (green) you can see exactly where they had vacuumed on 2/11, not even 24 hrs earlier) I called again today, 2/13, She indicated that it is pollen and is very normal. (we have a pool cage). I have never had this problem in the past. She became very nasty and again mentioned we aren't paying enough. I told her that Hans set the price and she said he had never been here and that she did it over the phone and became very argumentative. I told her I would like to cancel my service. She said she doesn't want to do our service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. She is terrible to work with.
Flamingo Pools and Hans were so far one of the best things I've found in Florida. From start to finish Hans was always available on his cell phone, email, or text. Didn't matter what day or what time he always got back to me. Hans was recommended by my realtor, and we made offers on 3 places all needing a pool build. Hans immediately came and did quotes on each one within 24 hours. The first 2 houses we offered on fell through, but we got the last one and it needed a pool which Hans quoted out same day. I called numerous different companies and the fastest anyone else got back to me in was a week. To avoid making this too long here is the gist of my awesome experience with Hans and Flamingo Pools: 1. Quote matched from day 1 to completion. No surprises 2. Hans was ALWAYS available and returned my calls. 3. His pricing was as good and better than everyone else. I called 6 or so other companies to get competetive quotes. 4. The design he came up with was EXACTLY what we wanted and better than we would have been able to put together ourselves. 5. When no one could figure out how to open up my existing lanai and remove some existing concrete to have it match the new deck, Hans did the work and had me only pay for his guys' labor expenses. No add on fee to the build. A local remodeling company quoted me 25k to do just that work. Hans saved me literally 24.5k on that alone. 6. Any time something came up, Hans was extremely quick to correct and make sure I was happy. 7. The build and design far exceeded what I imagined I'd get on my limited budget and I couldn't be happier. We have a beautiful pool and deck and if it weren't for Hans I would have pulled my hair out. I'm sure you've heard of all the stories about how contractors can be terrible to deal with in Florida. Well, those stories are typically true. But not with Flamingo. I HIGHLY recommend Flamingo Pool and Spa!! Thank you so much Hans and Phoebie, we love our new pool!
There was a lot of question as to whether to go public with our experience as I was raised with the thinking that if you had nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Well, there is a lot of good that was the finished product but it was not due to Flaming Pools. We signed our contract on July 19th even after been advised by several neighbors and friends to use someone else. In spite of this advice, we chose Flamingo to do a complete remodel to include resurfacing and a new paver deck. With any service company, I want to feel like I am an important customer and our needs will be taken care of in a timely fashion and communication and updates as very important. Suffice to say after 4 months we have what we believe is the pool and lanai area that we desired. However, this was achieved by us paying all the sub-contractors on the day that they completed the job. The three main subs that did all the work were great to work with and were meticulous in their jobs and discussed all of their work with us. That was the best communication we had in this whole process. These are the people who gave us the pool we were looking for. We have a documented string of texts going back to day 1 that shares many unfulfilled promises on deadlines and progress as well as excuses; some of which are very questionable when we were exposed to the truth of them. What brought me to actually share our experience was that after we were finished with Flamingo and were told we had a clean pool, our regular pool company service was reestablished and on their first visit they advised us the ph was off and was highly acidic and3 bags of salt had to be added to get the system back on line. It was then pointed out as they retrieved a third of a 5 gallon bucket of sand from the pool with a self contained vacuum, that they would have to make the pool "hot" next week with acid with a very aggressive brushing for the next 2-3 weeks. My wife and I spent the better part of the afternoon with razor scrapers getting the sand off all of the new tiles below the water line. In life, I have learned not to repeat my mistakes but to learn from them and not repeat them. It is that thinking that has brought me to share this review so others may do additional research before making their decision. I sure wish I had done so.

Flamingo Pool & Spa of Punta Gorda: Florida licensed since 1997, 4.3 on Google and 2.4 on Yelp, with two reports of liens placed on customers' homes.
Flamingo Pool & Spa works out of Punta Gorda and holds Florida contractor license CPC056940 — current since June 1997, which is twenty-nine years and among the longest continuous licenses on this list. Their web presence goes back to 1999. This is an established Charlotte County business, and the length of that record is real.
New pool construction, commercial pools, renovation, repairs, weekly servicing, spas, water features and outdoor living. The commercial side is substantial and visible in their own gallery — RV resorts, an inn, several parks — which is uncommon among the builders here and worth knowing if you are not a homeowner. Ten separate customers name their professionalism, five the quality of the build and four the communication, so there is a real body of satisfied work behind this company.
Punta Gorda, Charlotte County and the surrounding southwest coast, with commercial work visible further afield. They publish no separate pages for individual towns, so there is nothing documenting the reach — confirm your own address. They publish photographs of their own projects, including the commercial ones, which lets you judge the work directly.
Google has them at 4.3 from 25 reviews and Yelp at 2.4 from 14, averaging 3.62 across 39 — about nine tenths of a point below the 4.52 average across Florida's builders, and the gap between the two platforms is wide. Thirty-nine reviews is a modest base, so read what people describe rather than the averages. The praise is genuine and repeated, as above. The complaints are also repeated, and one of them is more serious than anything else on this directory, so it goes first. Two separate customers, five years apart, describe the same thing: a subcontractor who was not paid by the company placing a lien on the customer's house. One describes the hole for their pool being dug in February 2022 against a June 2021 start commitment, work beginning only after they threatened a complaint to the state licensing board, and then the excavation subcontractor filing a lien against their property. The other states it plainly as a warning about paying twice for the same work. A construction lien is a legal charge on your home that you may have to settle yourself regardless of what you already paid the contractor, so this is not a matter of finish or manners. Beyond that, two customers describe never getting a call back — one across a six-month span, another after twelve calls and three emails trying to recover a prepaid service balance — and two describe how they were treated when they pressed, including being hung up on. Two more describe the work itself: tiles coming off and decking cracking on a two-year-old pool, and pavers that had to be removed and reinstalled. Read together, this is a long-established builder with many happy customers and a documented failure to pay its subcontractors, and the second thing can cost you money that the first cannot make up. If you contract with them or conditional release, from every subcontractor and supplier before each payment you make. Ask your title company or attorney to hold the paperwork. That single step is what stands between the record here and your house.

Getting a reply: two customers describe no callback, one across six months, another after twelve calls and three emails chasing a prepaid balance. How they respond when pressed: two describe it going badly, including being hung up on. And the work: tiles coming off and decking cracking on a two-year-old pool, and pavers that had to be removed and reinstalled. One customer's build started eight months late and only after they threatened a complaint to the state licensing board.
Yes, and substantially — their own gallery shows RV resorts, an inn and several parks alongside residential pools. That capability is uncommon among the builders here.
