Family Pools installed a brand new pool in 2023 for a home I bought off of a builder. Fast forward to August 2026 we were tired of the color combination of the tile and plaster so I called Max one of the owners in a proud family run business in Sarasota. We sat down and he talked about options from listening to our ideas and at that point it was clear to us the passion that he had representing his company and his workmanship was going to be an amazing experience. Max sent his Foreman Joe who you can tell has had a lot of experience in construction and we were off to the races, Joe had the tile and plaster completely removed in two days. NO dust no issues. The following day he had all the prep work done ready for plaster and pebbles. Then came in their Tech Brent this guy was a stud he made sure all the fittings were in the right spots, completely revamped my bubbler, tested all the lights and electrical components. Plaster day the boys covered all my patio with poly all the way down the side of the house and all the way to the road. Done in 4 hours. I came back home from the gym and the water was already filling in the pool. Amazing! Today Brent came back started my pool, placed all the covers on the fittings, updated my Hayward panel, added chemicals and balanced the pool to perfection. Joe came by to at the end of the night to check if i was happy! I was! Thanks Family Pools! Max, Joe and super Brent! Also shout out to Shanan for the water credit letter she sent me that you will need for submitting to the city for using home water to fill the pool. Team work really works!

Nice people on the phone, and came out to look at reno, asked for the survey, and then told me a quote was coming. I followed up 2 or 3 times. Each time being told it was coming. Been months. I figure spending all that time to come out and talk on the phone only to never even provide a quote is odd business practice. These days, they want to dazzle you with 3D images before they give you a price, which means it is a massive undertaking for their sales rep to do a quote when all we really want is an approximate price to start with, even if it is flexible on finishes. Otherwise, I always prefer someone just say they don't want the job or are too busy. Don't say 3x a quote is coming and never deliver one, sends a message that could be more respectfully delivered with "sorry, but we are going to pass on this job". Common courtesy in communication avoids poor reviews.

We had a great experience with Family Pools from start to finish. Our pool turned out beautiful, and we couldn’t be happier with the final result. We would like to thank Chris, our salesperson and designer, who was knowledgeable, patient, and helped create a design that fit exactly what we wanted. We also had a great experience with Tabitha, the project manager, who kept everything organized and made sure the project stayed on track. Their professionalism, communication, and attention to detail made the entire process smooth. We highly recommend Family Pools to anyone looking to build a high-quality pool.

For the first 30 days, everything was great. Communication was good. Joe was our salesperson and he did a very nice job. Tabitha oversaw the project and was nice to deal with and answered all of our questions. I could text her and she would get right back to me. The problem that occurred was when we would drop off a check at the main office, we would get a bill a few days later showing we owe owed money that had already been paid. That became annoying. Once the majority of the money had been paid, we feel that the work slowed, and sometimes the workers would not show up. We don’t blame our sales person or Tabitha. We feel this neglect was in the office. There was also contractual work that was supposed to be done that was missed; luckily, we caught it after the fact. We were told that everything would be scheduled on an app called Buildertrend. Nothing was shown on the schedule. It was only used to show pictures of what had been done. It would have been nice for them to actually use this to show us a schedule.

A special thank you to our project manager, Tom Barnholt, who was amazing throughout the entire project. He was always quick to answer our calls and questions, kept us informed every step of the way, and did a fantastic job during our pool school, making everything easy to understand. Most importantly, our pool turned out absolutely gorgeous! We couldn't be happier with the quality and the entire experience. Thank you, Family Pools!

★☆☆☆☆ Google · June 11, 2026

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this pool company based on our experience. From start to finish, we had to manage virtually the entire project ourselves. Despite hiring a company that was supposed to oversee and coordinate the build, there was little to no project management provided. Nearly all of the work was performed by third-party subcontractors, and there was no meaningful follow-up or quality control from the company. Instead of proactively managing the project, they relied on us to identify problems, report issues, and continuously follow up for corrections. Even when legitimate concerns were raised, getting items repaired or completed properly felt like pulling teeth. Communication and accountability were lacking throughout the process. The most frustrating part was the disconnect between the sales process and the actual experience. During the sales pitch, they told us everything we wanted to hear and presented themselves as a full-service company that would handle the project from beginning to end. In reality, we found ourselves acting as the project manager, quality control inspector, and customer service department. If you're considering this company, be prepared to closely monitor every phase of the project and advocate for yourself at every step. Based on our experience, I would not use them again and would not recommend them to others.

About Family Pools of Florida

Family Pools of Sarasota: 4.8 on Google from 184 reviews, a verified award record, and what to ask about how they run a project.

Who they are

Family Pools works out of 9th Street in Sarasota, Sarasota County. Their Florida contractor license, CPC1460750, was issued in August 2024, but the business behind it is considerably older: the domain has been registered since 2013 and the site was archived within days of that. So the name has been trading for over a decade while the license in this company's name is recent — an ordinary sequence with several innocent explanations, and one to ask them about rather than infer. They describe themselves as family-owned, which is their own account. Their award-winning claim does hold up against a published record.

What they build

New pool construction, renovation of existing pools, repairs, ongoing pool service, spas and hot tubs, water features, outdoor living work, and commercial pools alongside residential. Eight lines, none with a page of its own, and twenty-four project photographs published — a full set, and the most useful thing on the site for judging finished work. They keep long weekday hours, to six in the evening, which makes an after-work site visit possible. Their website is actively maintained: the page they updated most recently was their own team page, a few days ago.

Where they work

Sarasota and Sarasota County. They publish no separate pages for individual towns, so there is no documented town-by-town service area — treat Sarasota, Bradenton and the surrounding coast as the sensible assumption and confirm anything further by phone. They publish no email address either, so the phone is the route in. There was activity on the site within the last few days, so this is a going concern rather than a license with a dormant website attached.

What the record shows

Google has them at 4.8 from 184 reviews, and that is a strong result: comfortably above the 4.52 Florida average, on a sample large enough that the score is a settled fact rather than a good spell. Among the builders here with more than a hundred reviews, very few rate higher. Four separate customers name their professionalism, and the most useful account is from a customer whose pool they installed in 2023 and who came back to them three years later to change the finish — repeat business from the same customer is the hardest thing on a page like this to fake. No complaint theme reaches our floor of two customers raising the same specific thing, so there is no recurring problem to report. Two individual accounts are worth reading anyway, and they point at the same stage rather than the same fault. One customer says they had to manage virtually the whole project themselves despite hiring a company to do it. Another describes asking for a renovation quote, being asked for the survey, following up three times over several months, and never receiving the quote at all. Neither is about the quality of a finished pool; both are about being chased versus chasing. Against 184 reviews at 4.8 they are the tail, not the trend — but they suggest the sensible questions are about process rather than craft: who is your project manager, how often will you hear from them, and how long should a quote actually take.

Questions homeowners ask

Answered from this record — not by the business.

What do the reviews actually say?

Google has them at 4.8 from 184 reviews, comfortably above the 4.52 Florida average and dependable on a sample that size — very few builders here with more than a hundred reviews rate higher. Four customers name their professionalism, and one had a pool installed in 2023 and came back three years later to change the finish. No problem was raised by two or more customers, so there is no recurring issue.

Is there anything to be careful about?

Process rather than craft. Two individual accounts — not enough to be a pattern — describe having to chase: one customer says they managed virtually the whole project themselves, and another asked for a renovation quote, supplied the survey, followed up three times over months and never received it. Ask who your project manager is, how often you will hear from them, and how long a quote should take.

How long have they been in business?

Longer than the license suggests. Their current license, CPC1460750, was issued in August 2024, but the domain has been registered since 2013 and the site was archived the same month. A license newer than the business is ordinary and has innocent explanations — ask them directly rather than reading either date as the founding year.

Are the awards real?

Their award-winning claim does hold up against a published record, which puts them in the minority here. Their claim to be family-owned is their own account and not something the public record settles either way.

How do I get hold of them, and which areas do they cover?

By phone — they publish no email address. They are based on 9th Street in Sarasota and publish no separate pages for individual towns, so Sarasota, Bradenton and the surrounding coast is the sensible assumption. They keep long weekday hours, to six in the evening, so an after-work site visit is possible.
