Waldhauer & Son did a fantastic job with our pool deck pavers and tiles! Roy and his staff are to be commended for their hard work, timeliness and honesty! I will recommend them to anyone.

I wasn't going to waste my time or energy writing a review. But now, after only 2 years our salt cell stopped working, and its time to let everyone know the nightmare of a pool company Walhdhaurer is. The whole process from start to finish was agonizing. From dealing with the office staff, to the lies, aggressive behaviors and incompetent, shotty work. Here are a few of the things that were not done right: the pool light does not light our entire pool, the bubblers were never installed on our sundeck, the bench at the end of the pool was too low, they graded our yard uneven and it created a permanent pooling of water when it rains, they killed our new grass with overlay cement, there was a leak in our pool before plaster, the finish is bumpy already, there's rust cracks coming out of the water fall, the pool service guy they give you after messed up our chemicals and caused scaling etc etc. So many more things happened, but just to give you an idea, we failed inspections 3 times! We had poor communication throughout the process and when there was communication we were talked down to and talked at aggressively. Phone calls got left un returned ALL the time. The only time they contacted us is when they wanted a check. Once you sign that contract, they do whatever they want. Lies, disrespect and shotty work. The only thing that was done well was the tile. Other than that, it was the worst experience I've ever had with a supposed professional company. My advice is to stay far away from them.

I can’t say say enough about Waldhauer & Son! They did an exceptional job installing new pavers on our pool deck as well as installing new waterline tile! They put in a full days work every day until finished. They were on time, professional and friendly. I would highly recommend them!

Contracted with Waldhauer August 11th 2022. Was told 6-9 months until Construction would start. They started May 7th 2023 so just a few weeks over the 9 months , not a huge deal. Dig went well, no issues. When gunite application started there was no plumbing in place for my spa. I went out and asked the guys if it was normal for the plumbing to not be done. They looked at me funny and then said ,"is this a raised spa"? Which I replied yes. Ever since then I watched them like a hawk. I can only imagine what I would've had to go through had they not run that plumbing. After the gunite was dried the spa looked way too deep. I reached out to them several times and got no reply except for the sales man that sold me on the pool in the first place. He said that he would have Gerard "the project manager reach out". He never did. 6 weeks went by before anyone came back to my property. When the tile crew came out I expressed my concerns with the spa and they said they were going to fix it. They fixed it in a way that the seats were brought up higher but nothing changes the fact that the spa it's self is at my shoulders in the middle. After tile was completed another 5 weeks went by with no one coming. Multiple emails and phone calls were made on my behalf. I left Roy an email saying if no one contacted me in the next 24 hours I would reach out to news outlets and social media. 20 minutes later he called me with nothing but excuses. A few days later a crew came to paint my decking. They showed up with about 5 guys and carelessly painting my decking. Missing a lot of areas and left paint globs everywhere. I went out and tried to fix it with a paint brush, some areas had already dried. I sent him another email in regards to my concerns. No response. Another few weeks go by and I left for RI to visit family. My neighbor sent me a picture of them starting my screen encloser. When I returned home they were installing the wrong size screen. I upgraded to 20x20. They did correct it quickly but only because I told them to do so. Trash has been left all over my property, cigarette butts in my "pool" . A 2 ton dirt pile that's been here since the dig that they said months ago they'd be back to remove that and all the trash. I'm now 3 weeks past enclosure being built and no one has been here. I've emailed and called with no response. They've received $70,000 and I don't even have my equipment yet. They have to install equipment plaster and fill the pool and they're done. But apparently they're too busy using my money to finish their previous projects and pushing mine to the side. I'm making full monthly payments now with no end in sight. I was told in May I'd be swimming in August. We're now in almost October and I don't see an end in sight. Several other of their customers are going through the same thing and it's very sad they they are capable of doing this to people. Beware of this company. Spend your money else where and do your research on the pool companies here.

It was a pleasure working with everyone at Waldhauer. I have a beautiful pool at a great price. Roy was a gentleman to deal with. Gerard the foreman is attentive to your needs and a caring professional. The ladies (Glenda and Heidi)in the office were courteous and professional. Thanks for making a dream come true. My children and I look forward to making many memories in our lovely pool !

Once you've signed the pool contract and chosen your tiles, Roy Walhauer becomes rude and unconcerned about quality, timeliness and coordination towards pool completion. His son Carter, 'By the Shores' is equally rude and ineffective in performing his job of the promised pool service. The other employees are kind and knowledgeable when they can be reached, but mostly do not respond to texts or phone calls. Everything seems to have come to a complete standstill for the past several months.....

About Waldhauer & Son Inc

Learn everything about Waldhauer & Son — their reviews, license CPC057029, standing, and what their customers actually report! Only at FloridaPoolz.

Who they are

Waldhauer & Son works from North State Street in Bunnell, Flagler County, on Florida pool contractor license CPC057029 — current since December 1998. Twenty-eight years on the state's register, and the site has been archived since 2004. They build new pools, renovate, service, and fit screen enclosures, spas and water features. Their own headline names Bunnell and nowhere else, and 24 project photographs are published on the site. They describe themselves as family-owned and as licensed and insured; the license is the checkable half and it is clean.

What the reviews say

This is the part to read before anything else. Google has them at 3.2 from 56 reviews. The Florida average across the 346 builders on this directory is 4.52, which puts Waldhauer & Son more than a point and a third below the middle — the lowest position on this list by a wide margin. Fifty-six reviews is enough that this cannot be dismissed as a bad month or a handful of difficult customers. It is a pattern.

Two things recur. Three separate customers describe calls and emails going unanswered — one puts it that the company answers when the next payment is due and not otherwise. Two more describe the quality of the finished work, in blunt terms: one says the job was done crookedly, promised in three months and still unfinished a year later.

The good reviews are real and they are specific, which matters. Three reviewers name the professionalism of the people they dealt with, and one describes a beautiful pool at a good price, a foreman who paid attention, and a straightforward experience start to finish. Both accounts are on the same record. What separates them is not visible from outside, and that is precisely the risk you would be taking.

Before you sign

If you are considering them, the two documented failures tell you exactly what to protect against. Put the completion date in the contract with a consequence attached to missing it, since the most detailed complaint is about a three-month job unfinished at a year. Tie payments to inspected stages rather than to dates, since more than one customer describes contact drying up between payments. Name one person as your contact and get their direct number in writing. Ask to visit a pool they finished in the last six months and speak to that owner. And ask for the insurance certificate — Florida publishes nothing that lets anyone confirm cover for you.

Questions homeowners ask

Answered from this record — not by the business.

Are Waldhauer & Son licensed in Florida?

Yes. Florida pool contractor license CPC057029 has been current since December 1998. That is twenty-eight unbroken years, and it is the strongest thing on their record. Ask separately for the insurance certificate; a license is not insurance and Florida publishes nothing that would confirm cover.

How bad is a 3.2 rating?

On 56 reviews it is a genuine signal, not noise. The Florida average across the 346 builders on this directory is 4.52, so they sit more than a point and a third below the middle — the widest gap on this list. A small sample can be dragged down by two angry customers; a 56-review average cannot.

What do the complaints actually say?

Two themes. Three customers describe calls and emails going unanswered, with one saying contact resumes when a payment is due. Two describe the standard of the finished work — the most detailed says the job was done crookedly and was promised in three months but unfinished a year later.

Is there anything good on the record?

Yes, and it is specific rather than vague. Three reviewers name the professionalism of the staff they dealt with. One describes a beautiful pool at a good price, an attentive foreman, and a clean experience from start to finish. Good outcomes clearly happen here; the record says they are not reliable.

What should I put in the contract?

A completion date with a consequence for missing it, payments tied to inspected stages rather than to the calendar, one named contact with a direct number, and a visit to a pool they finished in the last six months with a word to that owner.
