We had our pool built by Van Kirk. We have never met such professional, super organized, top quality construction related people in Florida. What sets this pool builder apart from the average? 1. Quality is by far the best. All equipment is top of the line. 2. We love the family oriented service they offer. 3. Admin staff kept us up to speed almost weekly with emails on progress. 4. Golan our field manager was beyond excellent. Finally, Kevin Van Kirk our sales person was extremely kind and respectful and despite completing his initial touch point with us continued to follow up along the way. He has some great insights on styles and ideas.. Be open and let him guide you, he is very talented. Do not bother looking around to save pennies, Construction is very complicated and if done poorly could cost you thousands and thousands.. Do it right from the start. Call Kevin!

What started as an exciting pool project soon turned into an absolute nightmare with Vankirk Pools. We eagerly signed the agreement in April 2022, hoping for a satisfactory completion of the pool at a total cost of $104,000. Regrettably, the pool remains unfinished and riddled with numerous issues to this day. Even more disheartening is the fact that obtaining permit approval took a frustrating five months, despite our efforts to provide all necessary renderings and ensure compliance with the city's requirements before signing with Vankirk. This prolonged ordeal has cost us over $10,000 in unexpected expenses and has caused severe stress over the last 16 months. Communication from Vankirk Pools throughout the entire project was significantly lacking. We were consistently kept in the dark during critical stages, and the initial project manager assigned to us showed no interest in keeping us informed or providing positive interactions. Given the scale and cost of the project, keeping us informed should have been a fundamental aspect of their project management approach. Unfortunately, this seemed to be of little concern to them. Although the new project manager was much kinder to work with, they lacked the authority to make decisions and were merely following directions from Vankirk. This lack of autonomy caused unnecessary delays and hindered the progress of the project timeline. To our immense surprise, it became apparent that Vankirk Pools was operating on their own terms when it came to the work schedule. They exhibited a complete disregard for our time and personal space. The construction site consistently remained an eyesore, filled with trash that demonstrated their utter lack of care for cleanliness, our landscaping, and our plumbing. Shockingly, Vankirk Pools refused to take responsibility for these issues. Financial transparency proved to be another major concern throughout this ordeal. Several months into the project, we were suddenly informed of the need for an additional topography survey, amounting to $900, even though we were initially advised that our valid survey was sufficient. This lack of transparency left us feeling deceived and taken advantage of, and unfortunately, it only marked the beginning of this ongoing nightmare. The quality of the work provided by Vankirk Pools was consistently subpar. We needed multiple repairs for the pool deck due to issues like chipped and slipping marble, uneven surfaces, and poor spacing. Adding insult to injury, during a heavy rainstorm in April, the pool deck which was already in rough shape, completely collapsed. Shockingly, Vankirk Pools refused to accept responsibility and attempted to demand additional funds from us to rectify their own shoddy work or they would not proceed. Although we paid this additional demand, to this day, the pool deck remains in disrepair, with chipped and slipping marble. Furthermore, their lack of attention led to additional problems like having our internet cut during working hours and experiencing repeated breakages of our main water lines and sprinkler lines, resulting in rushed and costly plumbing repairs. The ongoing pool leak has also caused numerous water bills ranging from $500 to $1,125, and we continue to face these costs until the leak is resolved. To make matters even worse, during an unannounced visit, Vankirk Pools left a hose in the pool overnight, causing overflow to the coping. Vankirk Pools' negligence extended to the permit submissions as well. Their inaccurate indications that they would manage the swale and that our existing wooden fence would serve as the pool perimeter barrier resulted in major complications. Instead of properly addressing the issue, they simply disregarded the original fence, which was too small for the pool perimeter, ultimately forcing us to rush for additional permit submissions and corrections, incurring further expenses. Moreover, we had to pay an additional $6,300 to have someone else complete the swale work as per Vankirk's initial plans. Adding insult to injury, Vankirk Pools has resorted to threatening us with putting a lien on our property for the final payment of $7,400. However, our finance company is right to withhold payment until the work is satisfactorily completed. This blatant intimidation is the final straw in an already profoundly disheartening experience. Based on our extensive and unsatisfactory encounter with Vankirk Pools, I strongly advise anyone considering a pool builder to steer clear of them. Their complete disregard for proper communication, quality of work, financial transparency, and ethical dealings has caused us immeasurable stress, unexpected financial burdens throughout the process. To protect your peace of mind and your hard-earned money, I strongly recommend seeking assistance elsewhere for your pool building needs.

One thing I know about construction is that the building process is a struggle. The city takes its sweet time approving permits, scheduling can get out of hand, and you can end up in a love/hate relationship with your contractor. With Van Kirk, I received nothing but professionalism and honesty. If they were running late, I would get a courtesy call. If they run out of a tile sample I wanted, they would make sure I had other options available to me immediately. Did the permitting process take a while, yes it did. However, Van Kirk made sure they received every stitch of paperwork necessary to move it along the city as fast as that city would allow them. The construction process was explained to me fully and I was comforted that their knowledgeable staff was able to inform and educate me on all the building aspects I encountered. I'm thrilled with my service and my pool turned out absolutely fantastic! Even after the building process and I signed off on all my paperwork they still took my phone calls on how to operate the lighting and filter systems. Their service team makes sure to walk you through all the steps so you are comfortable and understanding. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for the best service and the most reliable staff!

We aren't sure whether this company is still in business. Over the last several weeks we have called the office many times, texted, and sent emails to several people and no one has bothered to respond.

I relocated to the Parkland, Florida area from Northern California and of course wanted to build a pool with my new home. I researched pool companies and Van Kirk Pools & Spa was highly recommended by other home owners. I chose to work with the company. In doing so, I got to meet many of the team members of the company, including Kevin Van Kirk, who worked closely with me on the design and permitting process. For me, it was as easy as it gets. Everything that the company was hyped to be -- friendly, businesslike, honest, competent, timely and responsive. The price for my pool was what I estimated and agreed to with the company -- nothing more. As you can guess, I'm a happy camper. Now, I'm just loving my pool. Thanks for a great job!

About Van Kirk & Sons Inc

Van Kirk & Sons of Deerfield Beach: licensed since 1988, the widest coverage here, and what 400 reviews actually say. FloridaPoolz.

Who they are

Van Kirk & Sons works across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade from Deerfield Beach, holding two Florida pool contractor licenses — CPC045956, current since November 1988, and CPC1459182 since October 2018. Thirty-eight unbroken years is among the longest records anywhere in this directory. They hold a published Top 50 Builders recognition and dated awards, which unlike the rest of their marketing can actually be checked.

What they build

New pool construction, renovation, repair and servicing, spas, water features and outdoor living work, with commercial pools alongside residential. They publish pages written for sixty-six towns from Vero Beach down to Homestead and across to Naples. That is by far the widest published coverage on this directory, and for a company of this age and size it is plausible — but sixty-six towns means multiple crews, so confirm who would build yours.

What their reviews say

4.3 from 405 Google reviews and 3.0 from 71 on Yelp, against a Florida pool builder average of 4.52. Four hundred reviews is a large, settled record: they sit a little below the field on Google and further below on Yelp, and at that volume neither number is a fluke. Ten customers praised professionalism independently, four the communication and four the build quality. No complaint theme was raised by two or more customers, so the shortfall comes from spread rather than one repeated fault.

Worth asking about

Their own site claims to be the best, the most trusted and number one. The lifetime structural warranty falls in the same category: ask for the written document, what voids it, and who honours it. With no single recurring complaint, read the one and two star Google reviews directly, since that is where the difference between a 4.3 and a 4.8 sits. Then ask which crew covers your town and who supervises them.

How do their reviews compare with other Florida pool builders?

4.3 on Google from 405 reviews and 3.0 on Yelp from 71, against a state average of 4.52. Slightly below the field on Google and further below on Yelp, on a large enough record that neither is a fluke.

Sixty-six towns from Vero Beach to Homestead and across to Naples — the widest published coverage on this directory. Confirm which crew covers your town.

No. No theme was raised by two or more customers, so the below-average scores come from varied experiences. Read the critical Google reviews directly.

What about the lifetime structural warranty?

It is their own claim and no public record confirms it. Ask for the written document, what voids it and who honours it. Their Top 50 Builders recognition, by contrast, is published and checkable.
