We decided early in 2022 to take the leap and purchase a pool. Once the decision was made I began the arduous task of researching pool builders and getting estimates. After about 2 months we finally settled on Thompson Pools & Spas and the main reason was because of their A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. I can wholeheartedly say now that I am extremely satisfied and thrilled with my decision. From the day I walked into the office and signed the purchase agreement. I was not disappointed. The price I was quoted that day is exactly what I paid, not a penny more. With that said, mid-construction I did decide to add a footer for the future installation of a screen enclosure, and this additional expense was at my request. I'm glad I had it done, because I won't have to bother with it when I decide to add the screen enclosure at a future date. Construction delays are par for the course, any major construction project is going to have it's share of delays or issues, and pools are famous for taking long periods of time to complete. I know people who waited for well over a year for their projects to be completed and that was before the pandemic. I made the purchase and initial payment in February of 2022. Work began at the end of April and was completed in November. That's a decent turn-around time if you ask me. From start to finish all of the workers and crews that contributed were extremely knowledgeable in their given trade. Yes, they are contracted through Thompson to do the work, but they are all very professional. From the shooting of the gunite, installation of the coping tile, water-line tile, plumbing, equipment and electrical, along with the pool deck, everything went smoothly. The only exception was some missing decorative tiles that were supposed to be installed beneath the water line tile and on the steps during the stucco of the pool interior. I was a little disappointed, but to my satisfaction Thompson promptly offered a credit for the cost of the tile. From start to finish, construction took 3 1\2 months total. It would have been done sooner if it were not for a delay in getting the pavers for the pool deck, but this was not the fault of Thompson. Supply chain issues caused by the pandemic were the culprit. However, once materials were on-site, work proceeded very quickly. Once everything was completed I noticed a leak. The water level would drop around 1-inch per day and I knew it was excessive and not due to evaporation. I contacted Taite right away. It took a few weeks and some trial and error to resolve, but after several attempts to find the leak and make repairs, my new pool is finally leak free. I have to thank Taite's diligence in keeping me informed and staying on top of things. His communication is top notch and very well appreciated. Taite probably deserves a raise ;-) Hank, Taite, Jim, Parker, Jordan and the rest of the Thompson crew were friendly, professional, and diligent in their efforts to complete my project in a timely manner and to my complete satisfaction. If given the chance, I would make the same decision again without hesitation. If you are thinking about having a pool / spa installed, you can't go wrong with Thompson Pools and Spas. I recommend them very highly. The photos I am including are before construction and immediately after pool start-up, before sod installation.

Thompson Pools and Spas exemplified by the quality of work and execution of the project makes them the number one pool builder in Central Florida. Overall, our pool construction could not have gone any smoother, and we could not be happier. We highly recommend Thompson Pools and Spas to anyone contemplating adding a pool to their home. There is a reason they are such a successful pool company. After meeting with several pool builders, we built a pool with Thompson Pools and Spas. We were pleased with their prices, professionalism, and family-like atmosphere. The 100% deciding factor was that Jim Echo completely captured our vision in the design and exceeded expectations. Jim created a beautiful pool within our budget, including our must-have features without excessive add-ons. He was very professional and helpful during the design process. We met with him numerous times before signing, including in the evenings and on weekends to accommodate our work schedule. He did not pressure us and designed a beautiful pool for us. Their office is very organized and efficient, is is a well-oiled machine. Jim remained accessible throughout the process. Once we entered the construction phase, we were most impressed with our project manager, Taite, and the rest of the construction staff. We received daily updates from Taite, and frequent updates/calendar/emails from the office. He was also very responsive and returned calls the day of our inquiry. The request was addressed immediately. We coined the phrase, "Taite is great!" Taite did an excellent job keeping us well-informed about the entire process and answered questions we had in great detail. We were first-time pool purchasers, Tate was extremely patient and thorough. You can tell that he cares deeply about his job, and it showed in the quality of our pool and timeliness of the project. Our project was completed in a timely manner - ahead of projection, with the dig taking place soon after the permit was issued. The workers were courteous and clean they always cleaned up when they finished working for the day. Our neighbors even complimented us on how clean and neat the process was compared to other builds in the area. To top our fabulous experience off, we had the pleasure of meeting Hank on our project. Hank, the owner of Thompson Pools and Spas came out twice to meet us and check on the job. Wow! We didn't build a big, expensive, extravagant pool, but the owner took time out of his busy schedule to check on our project. He was attentive and sincere. It made us feel even more confident in our project. When the pool was filled, we were happy with SPI, who balanced the water and chemicals while getting the pool ready to swim. The SPI team is friendly and always willing to answer questions and spend time explaining the details of maintaining a pool. Just when we thought we were coming to the end of our Thompson Pool and Spas experience … we were introduced to Parker. Parker has a wealth of knowledge and a professional can-do attitude. He spends his time efficiently and is the "MacGyver" of the team. Thank you, Thompson Pools and Spas . If you are looking for a great company to build a background oasis - call Thompson Pools and Spas.

Thompson Pools is, hands-down, the best pool company out there. Here's my story: I was very nervous about putting in a pool based on all the horror stories from family, friends and neighbors. Plus our backyard is on a steep hill thus a difficult build. Some pool companies said it was impossible. We interviewed 5 or so companies and Jim was the only person who was confident they could build on this lakefront hill. He was also the only sales person to actually listen to what we wanted. His initial design was exactly what we asked for. Then his ideas and recommendations took this pool to another level. Once construction started I was holding my breath waiting for the trouble to start. It never did. The entire process was very smooth and stress free. Taite was always available and ready to take action on any questions or concerns we had along the way. To my surprise the pool was completed within a few weeks of the original schedule shown on the calendar. Every employee we encountered was knowledgeable and cares about what they are doing. They collectively want you to have a good experience and to love your pool. They have continued to follow up after the pool was completed to ensure we're happy. When we told them we were having our first pool party, they told us to send a message if anything went wrong and they would be on call for us. In no way is this a "take your money and run" company. They clearly care about their reputation and they truly want you to be 100% happy with your pool.

From the very first consultation with Jim, all the way through the construction process with Taite and the entire Thompson Pools & Spas team, our experience has been nothing short of exceptional. Their professionalism, craftsmanship, and most importantly their outstanding communication made our pool build an enjoyable, stress-free journey. Thompson didn’t just build us a pool, they helped us bring a dream to life. We wanted a backyard oasis where our children, our family, and our friends could gather, relax, and create lasting memories. They delivered exactly that and more. Our backyard has become a place where we can escape, unwind, and enjoy some of life’s best moments together. We’ve recently worked with a number of contractors for various home repairs and remodels, and Thompson Pools & Spas stands out as one of the absolute best. Their customer service consistently exceeded our expectations, and their commitment to quality was evident every step of the way. We’re so pleased with our experience that we’ve already recommended Thompson to several friends for their future pool builds and we would gladly recommend them to countless others. We are truly grateful for the beautiful space they helped create and for the memories our family will enjoy for years to come. Thank you, Thompson Pools & Spas, for helping us turn our home into something extraordinary.

Do not engage in business with this company. Although they "appear" to have the cheapest rates among their competitors that is not always true in the end. They have a history of hiding costs and although buried in their contracts, it is not always known up front unless you read the entire contract before signing. They will come out to be the cheapest because they exclude what may not necessarily be needed (i.e, retention walls, running PVC pipe, etc.) and this just will add to the entire total and you have no choice but to pay it. Other competitors get it right the first time and do not hide such costs (i.e, Atlas Pools). They also subcontract everything out to other vendors, which is another reason not to engage with this company. You might also be thinking "well let me call them up anyway and get the answer from them." Trust me they will talk you up and tell you this is not true and you'll believe them. I would recommend contacting multiple pool companies and getting quotes and making sure what is stated in the contract is both ethical and legal before signing. It is also worth mentioning that I am not in a B2C relationship with this company; however, the poor negligence caused by their subcontractors over the course of the year of damaging my property has prompted me to write this review. Keep in mind that when they do damage your property they will tell you over and over again that is not their responsibility and is stated in the contract with the customer, which in my case is my next door neighbor. A representative from Thompson did come out and inspect the damage and straight up told me I had better things to worry about over some damage to my fence and artificial turf. Mind you my fence and turf was here well before they engaged in business with my neighbor and any damage caused by the lack of professionalism of their subcontractors should be on them not the customer and definitely not the neighbors of their customers. I am not sure if this is legal, but this is definitely not ethical. In the end I the neighbor will be held responsible to repair my own property that I did not cause in the first place. Just make sure anyone reading this to please research and read the fine print before engaging in business because although the price might appear to be right on paper, it might end up not being the best option in the end. This really deserves no stars. Thanks.

Pool was supposed be done 3 to 4 months took over 1 year and every time was a new charger the pool when up of the price agreed upon plus all the damage around neighbors house and HOA we had to pay for it. Now got things to fix and can't get anyone to respond back will never build something again will buy the next house with everything already can't deal with people like these especially every conner is a upgrade or they dint know something else need to be done so u r stuck in the middle and have to pay the extra out of your pocket or nothing gets done and the best part is Taite and Jim " not the owner we find out later about it anyways talked to us like we work for them and are doing the pool for free the only person that is reliable in that place was Jason great guy help us with everything that was need. Company Snapshot

Thompson Pools & Spas is based on Plant Street in Winter Garden and has carried an active Florida Certified Pool/Spa Contractor license (CPC056971) under qualifier Martin Joseph Thompson since 1998, one of the longer-standing licenses in this dataset.

Specialties & Service Area

The permit mix here is broader than pure new-pool construction — alongside 38 pool-specific permits, county records show a large volume of propane and gas-line work plus alterations (25), accessory structures (22), and additions (21), suggesting a company that handles the full backyard build rather than just the shell. Geographically, recent permit activity clusters in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood along with Orwin Manor and Lake Nona Central, extending well beyond the Winter Garden home base.

Recent pool permit values have run in the $50,000–$65,000 range, and permit activity has continued into 2026 (4 permits so far, averaging around $57,000). Praise tags pulled from customer feedback lean heavily toward communication (18 mentions) and design (13 mentions), the two most frequently cited strengths in the review set, with crew professionalism (13 mentions) close behind.

What Customers Say

The rating here is strong — 4.8 stars from 37 reviews — and the detailed feedback backs it up: one client who spent two months comparison-shopping settled on Thompson largely on the strength of its A+ Better Business Bureau rating, and reported the final price matched the signed contract exactly, with a build timeline (April signing to November completion) they considered reasonable given typical pool-industry delays and a hurricane-adjacent schedule. That same reviewer noted only one hiccup — some decorative tile initially missing beneath the waterline that was corrected. Not every account is glowing: one reviewer alleged the company under-quotes by excluding line items like retention walls or drainage work that get added back in later, and raised concerns about reliance on subcontractors and property damage during construction.

Bottom Line

A large, verifiable permit history, a nearly three-decade-old license, and a review set that consistently praises communication and design point to a well-established operation that does more than build pool shells. The one substantive complaint on record — about contract transparency on add-on costs — is worth raising directly during the quoting process.
